Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse style of music has earned her the label of "atypical pop star". She was attracted by Spanish folk music when she was only 13 years old. She studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. The project reinvented flamenco and mingled it with pop and hip-hop music. The two singles "Malamente" and "Pienso in tu Mira" were popular among the Spanish public and garnered the acclaim of all critics. Recognized as the winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and listed in the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the ascendance of Rosalia into the international scene of music. [12][13(13) Rosalia was a pioneer of urbano music through her 2019 albums "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", having global success. She introduced reggaeton to a new twist on her third album Motomami (2022) and departed from the new flamenco sound of her previous album. The album's two singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" attracted the attention of international audiences and was the top-rated album by Metacritic. Over the course of her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten #1 singles from her home country, which is a record for a local artist. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the year awards) as well as four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been given to her. Also, she was awarded two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award, in 2019 for "changing the music of today's popular songs with her fresh flamenco-infused pop". 18 years ago, she is also the first singing Spanish group to be recognized for the Best New Artist at Grammys. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Born in a family with no artistic backgrounds and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who has a family-owned business focused on metalwork. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They divorced in 2019. [23] Her older sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative mind. Rosalia was interested in performing arts from the age of five. She discovered the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical education at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a six-year course at the academy. She began attending class at the Raval school, and then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia.
