Lee Roy Selmon's lifestyle includes football scholarships, family involvement and community involvement. First, the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on a Eufala farm. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. The National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon earned his master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. After college, he moved in Tampa and played nine years for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. Then he started his professional career. The first position he held was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he led the team. In 1993, he became the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and The Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
